What Will I Do As a Member of the KU Pre-Law Chapter?
KU’s Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta meets every other Tuesday during the regular school year. Our meetings give students the opportunity to engage in academic discussions and meet with speakers from various areas of the legal profession.
Here’s a quick look at a few things we did this year:
- Hosted a free screening of “The Trials of Law School” in Alderson Auditorium. This documentary gave us an inside look at Law School through the eyes of eight first year students at The University of Oklahoma College of Law.
- Sent four representatives to the 2008 Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Conference in Washington, D.C. We’ll be sending representatives again in 2009.
- Were featured in PAD’s National semi-annual publication, The Reporter.
- Hosted several notable speakers at our member meetings, including Kansas State Representative Paul Davis and District Court IV Judge Michael J. Malone
How Do I Join?
Joining PAD is one way to show Law Schools that you’re serious about your future, and meetings are a great way to get to know other Pre-Law students at KU.
Just follow these simple steps:
- Print and fill out a membership application
- Turn in application and membership dues ($100 in national initiation fees and $30 local) to the Advising Center in Strong Hall (Room 126), attn: Preston Nicholson.
- Maintain active membership, and you’ll be initiated at the end of the semester!
What do I need to do in order to be considered an active member of PAD?
To be considered active, a PAD member must:
- Turn in all dues and the new member application (before they are initiated)
- Attend a majority of the semester’s meetings (this is usually 4 out of a total 7 meetings) *If you join late in the semester and are unable to attend a majority of meetings, you can still be considered active but will not be initiated until the following semester*
- Participate in one PAD community service event (opportunities are offered once a month during the regular school year)
- Participate in a PAD committee (There are currently 2 committees: events/community service and PR. Community service/events is in charge of planning PAD social events and networking with local charities/organizations to set up PAD community service opportunities. The Committee Chair is Annie Park. PR is responsible for all advertising of events and marketing of the PAD organization on campus and in the Lawrence community. Alyssa Aude is the Chair of the PR Committee)
