Our Community Service Event!

As you all know, every PAD member is required to participate in a PAD-hosted Community Service Event each semester. This year, our event is a Winter Toiletries Drive to benefit the Lawrence area families who use our local Social Rehabilitation Services (SRS).

You can donate toiletries at any time from now until Stop Day to Room 126 (put them in  bag with your name on it and deliver them to the front desk for Preston Nicholson). Everyone who donates something is going to have their name put into a drawing for a $30 Chipotle gift card! If you’re a member of PAD, you are required to donate or help out–but we want this drive to be campus wide so be sure to tell all of your friends about it and get them to donate too!

PAD members will be collecting donations at tables in the lobby of the Kansas Union and on Wescoe Beach from 11am-3pm on December 2nd and December 3rd.

This is a great way to help Lawrence families, get your community service finished, and possibly win some yummy Chipotle. If you are required to do Community Service for some other group and want me to sign off that you did it through this, I can.

Conference Representatives

At last Tuesday’s meeting, we announced the 3 PAD members who will be attending the D.C. conference this year. Here are your chapter representatives for 2009:

David Schrunk

Sarah Shier

Jessica Heinen

If you guys have specific questions for other chapters or anything you want our reps to keep an eye out for while they’re in D.C., let me know. They leave this week (they’ll be in D.C. Nov 12-14).

Free Think About Law Forum

Free Think About Law Forum
Wednesday, November 11th from 6-7:30PM, Centennial Room at The KS Union
Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions is sponsoring a free panel for Pre-Law Students to attend. Get a chance to ask questions and hear about the law school experience and the law school admissions process from students and administrators from KU and Washburn Law Schools. This will give you great insight into the application and admissions processes, what it takes to make it through law school and how KU and Washburn differ in program offerings. If you are considering Law School in general or any of these area schools this event will give you valuable advice you can use to become a stronger applicant. We will open up the panel to audience questions at the end. Come armed with questions.
Serving on the Panel:
-Jacqlene Nance, Director of Admissions, KU School of Law
-Karla Whitaker, Director of Admissions, Washburn School of Law
-Patrick Broxterman, Asst. Attorney General for Kansas, KU JD class of 2005
-Preston Nicholson, Pre-Law Advisor, OU JD class of 2007
-KU Law Student
*We will have an admissions seminar at the same location from 5-6PM if you would like to get a solid understanding of the admissions process and how the LSAT factors into the process before attending the panel.

Sign up online at www.kaptest.com/lsat (>find free events, use zipcode 66044). Pre-registration is required in order to notify participants of any minor changes/additions to the panel as well as to have enough informational packets for everyone who attends.

11/3 Meeting – Law Student Panel & Conference Info

Our next meeting will feature a panel of current law students – but this is your chance to ask ANYTHING you want!  They do not represent the law school they attend, and they are not the “official” ambassadors from KU or Washburn.  We had a similar panel last semester and it was a huge success!

You can ask questions anonymously–Rhianna will provide notecards and then you guys can just drop them into a box for the law students to choose from, so come prepared! If the Trials of Law School documentary from last meeting raised any questions for you, now would be a good time to get those cleared up!

This is a meeting you should not miss!

See you in the English Room at the KS Union @ 6PM!

PS – We’ve chosen the conference attendees, but ANYONE is welcome to go if they pay their own way!  (The Arizona PAD chapter gets around 80 people to go, and they all pay for it themselves – it’s a really inexpensive way to see D.C.!)

Contact amaude@ku.edu for details!

The Trials of Law School

Tuesday, October 20 @ 6 PM – Kansas Room – Kansas Union

Its a great movie to watch!  You can read more about it at www.thetrialsoflawschool.com.

It’ll last a little longer than a regular meeting, so be prepared to stay past 7.

Remember to bring your conference applications and $13 if you want a Tshirt!

Fall Break, T-Shirts, Conference

Only one more day before we’re all free for fall break!

Our next meeting is the Tuesday that we come back (October 20), and I wanted to remind you all that D.C. Conference applications are due on this date! You can turn them in before then if you want (by e-mail at rhoover894@gmail.com), or in person to me at the meeting. Don’t forget!

One other thing: we are ordering new t-shirts this year. If you signed up for a t-shirt at one of the last few meetings, you need to tell me what size you want and bring in $$ for it (yep, you guys have to buy them yourself this year…sorry!) As long as everyone orders who signed up, they are going to be about $13. Try to have the money by Oct 20 so we can order them ASAP!

Have an amazing, safe fall break! I’ll see you all when we get back!

KU Law Tonight!

Come to the Jayhawk Room in the Kansas Union tonight (10/6) at 6:00pm to hear from a panel of KU Law representatives. You’ll hear everything you need to know about KU Law and get some free pizza!

Attention New Members!!

PAD’s Executive Office just sent out the following email.  Basically, instead of paying every year to be a member of PAD, you only have to pay the ONE TIME initiation fee of $100 plus ONE TIME local dues of $30. No more $70 every August 1st:

P.A.D. understands the continuing difficulty that we are all facing in this economy and have listened to all chapters, members and faculty concerns. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that the annual dues for all members initiated after August 1, 2009 has been RESCINDED.

All students initiated into the P.A.D. Pre-Law Program will only need to pay a one-time International Initiation Fee of $100. The one-time fee will cover membership into the P.A.D. Pre-Law Program for the duration of the member’s undergraduate years.  To reiterate, the only fee that you will pay to the Fraternity during your undergraduate years is the one-time International Initiation Fee.

We are very pleased to have found additional revenue sources that have enabled the Fraternity to eliminate these new annual dues while also adding an additional staff member and increasing your membership benefits!

Email rhoover894@gmail.com with questions!
